You can view the full line up for next week’s SEE event on the SEE website. However, you can also browse the schedule on any Symbian phone using our SEE 2009 widget. The widget is a small app that will provide up-to-the-minute information about the conference schedule, twitter feeds and more. You can run it on any Symbian device with Web Runtime support, including:
- Symbian^1 devices (S60 5th Edition) such as the Nokia N97, Sony Ericsson Satio and Samsung 8910 HD
- All S60 3rd Edition FP2 and later devices
- Nokia S60 3rd Edition FP1 devices with latest firmware update
- Samsung S60 3rd Edition FP1 devices.
Simply download the SEE 2009 widget from http://tiny.symbian.org/seewidget and follow the installation prompts. Further information is available from http://tiny.symbian.org/install_seewidget or below:
- Download the widget to your computer from http://tiny.symbian.org/seewidget to your computer, or simply use this QR bar code to download it directly to your device. If you download the widget to your computer, you then need to transfer it to your phone, for example, by sending it over Bluetooth.
- Open the widget file (.wgz file) on the phone by clicking or tapping it on the phone, and follow the installation prompts.
- After installation, the application icon can be found in the “Applications” or “Installations” folder depending on what it is called on your device.

For detailed installation instructions see our extra instructions “How to get an app to the phone” on the Symbian wiki.
We’ve taken care to ensure that the widget can work offline without needing an Internet connection, since many attendees at SEE 2009 will be roaming and downloading schedule data or twitter feeds may not be desirable. The schedule data is bundled in the widget so no connection is needed. However, there’s also a built-in update feature in the menu that allows the user to check for any updates when it is convenient to go online.
Developing the widget
The widget was developed by me, Ivan Litovski, from the Symbian’s Technical Communications team. I’ve been working on a number of WRT widgets to illustrate how easy it is to create apps on Symbian devices. If you’d like to find out more see the Symbian developer wiki for further details. I’ll be at SEE 2009 next week if you have any questions, and you can contact me in the technical communications team here.

Should be fixed now – my apologies (the “make public” check box wasn’t ticked for one of the FURLs I generated).
[...] Ivan from Symbian’s Technical Communications Team has developed a small widget to help you plan how you will spend your time a the event. It includes things such as what is happening on the main stage at any one time, and also has a Twitter plug in, which, I presume, will be linked to the #SEE09 hashtag. [...]
