Sony Ericsson as one of the founding members of Symbian Foundation, passionately believes in the benefits of open source as a means of developing software for mobile phones and driving innovation.

Sony Ericsson will be showing the new Satio™ phone (above – which is now available for retail); running speed-meeting sessions for developers and be hosting a workshop entitled Shortening the path from ‘Code to Cash’, as well as taking part in the Wednesday panel discussion ‘Open Innovation, The Collaborative Evolution of Symbian’.
There shall be an exciting range of activities taking place at the stand this year, all aimed at giving developers, mobile entrepreneurs and enthusiasts an insight into our vision for the Symbian platform now and in the future. If you’re on Twitter, come and say hello to @sonyericssondev, @heleana_quartey or @symbian for pre-show updates. You can also find event news by looking up the hashtag #see09.
At our booth we will have lots of demonstrations, a competition and Developer World staff on hand to discuss opportunities for Symbian developers to earn money with Sony Ericsson’s channels to market. We’ll also be giving away Satio™ handsets to the winners of our regular ‘Fastest Finger’ competition sessions (taking place regularly throughout the event) as well as retailing them at a reduced rate with free accessories.
We warmly invite you to come and visit our stand; we can be found on stall 34. If you want to know more about us ahead of your visit click on the links below as well.

Even though Sony Ericsson might like the idea of open source operating sytstems I don’t think that their OS is that friendly to application developpers. I mean an open source os like Ubuntu would probably offer much more developping of third party applications. Of course there are always exceptions like the Iphone which pretty much has everybody developping apps for it even though Apple has not opened up anything of their code.
Are there details of any binary/source compatability breaks on the Satio or is it guarenteed that if the app works on the S60 5.0 SDK that it will work on the Satio? I hope it is!
Am i alone in thinking that his is an extraordinarily beautiful image? Take it for granted I mean the person being photographed is beautiful BUT I am also thinking of the extraordinary subtleties in a small screen image. I want a SATIO.
