Here at the Symbian Foundation we want to give David Wood our best wishes as he steps back from his role at Symbian Foundation to pursue his interests in the future of energy, accelerated climate change, artificial intelligence, and life extension — in short, exploring the future of technology as it transforms our lives and our planet. You can follow his ambitions from his personal blog: http://dw2blog.com/
David Wood has been involved in the evolution of the Symbian Foundation from when he was at Psion, serving 10 years on the leadership team of Symbian Software Limited and then playing a critical role in helping to create the new Symbian Foundation.
David Wood has been a core member of the leadership team at the Symbian Foundation, finding success in leading the transition to open source, forging alliances in the Chinese market, communicating our perspectives on the mobile ecosystem, and driving collaboration for a greater vision of mobile.
I personally, and the Symbian Foundation, would like to genuinely thank David Wood for his long-time contributions to the community.

Wow – looks like I’m first to wish well!
I visited Psion (I dimly recall) about the time they had just launched the first Organiser. I don’t know if I actually met David. The company was small, dynamic, and buzzing. I couldn’t have known what it would lead to – I was too green to recognize the combination of calm and intensity that these days one might also find at a company like Google.
With hindsight, I can recognize that kind of atmosphere. And I would guess that it could only result from the kinds of personalities involved in the team.
David was the person who actually welcomed me to this blog and the other Symbian Foundation initiatives. I was hooked by his amazing posts with the many nice images, trend explanations, and food for thought. Every blog entry from David was a fantastic mind map to explore and reflect on.
His insight will definitely be missed. Ten years [at Symbian] is a LOT of time! Good luck with your new endeavours, David, but please come here now and then and comment even as a freelancer hobbyist.
Thanks for everything!
Hi David,
Good luck and thinkers like you should explore more. There are lot of un knowns in this universe and there is always a place for people like you.
At times, I am amazed how quickly you replied on this blog. I am sure Symbian will miss a vocal advocate like you.
I have to agree with chips comments and extend them by saying David was willing to listen and think intelligently about posters comments before replying. He also seemed interested to hear from users as well as developers. Hope someone else at Symbian can follow through with that sort of leadership and attitude.
David gave me the confidence to get started in the mobile business. A quiet man who is brilliantly smart and can always be found generously offering his time to help others realise their dreams… you’ll have your work cut out without him!
I was lucky enough to work for David at Symbian, and he is one of the smartest, fairest, and most supportive people I’ve come across in my career, and a true pleasure to work with and for.
He has made enormous contributions to Symbian, and I am sure he will make a massive contribution in his new fields of interest.
Good luck David, and thanks!
Many thanks for all the warm wishes and very generous comments – both here, and on my personal blog.
I’m a bit lost for words
I’ll do my best!
I’ve greatly enjoyed the discussions in the comments section of this blog – which have been both passionate and thought-provoking. I’ve learned a great deal from it.
I’m especially pleased to see the recent announcement of the availability of the Symbian kernel package under the open source EPL licence – along with news of the Beagleboard, the freely available toolchain from ARM, and a true ARM instruction set simulator. This has been well worth waiting for. I’ll be keeping my eyes open for lots more news!
