Tweets, Beta Keys and Yellow Flying Cows..

The ‘full steam ahead’ mentality in the London Symbian Foundation HQ has not permitted a lot of time to recover from the fantastic success of meeting and greeting the many developers of Symbian applications and services at the Nokia Developer Summit 2009 in Monaco. In this post I’d like to give everyone some feedback about the launch of the developer focused Twitter feed (@symbiandevco) and some exciting information regarding the next round of beta keys for users based in the US, Asia and Europe.

The Tweets..

One notable point we are particularly proud of is the amount of interest the tie in between ourĀ  Twitter feed and initial Beta key give-away generated. We really could not have asked for more from all of the excellent Symbian developers out there, keen to get their hands on the first look into our developer website, so a massive thank you to everyone out there for taking the time to follow us in the brave new world of tweets, tweeple and (every now and again) the odd twit.

So great was the tweet-hungry Symbian Foundation support that not only were all expectations regarding the initial beta sign-ups blown through the roof, the word ’symbian’ also jumped into the top three most mentioned topics of conversation globally on Twitter for most of the morning!

Symbian in top 3 global Twitter trends

Curse that masterchef..

One of the great advantages of being recognised as trend on Twitter is that pages like whatthetrend.com catch and display tweets, news and photos about all things Symbian, making it another great bookmark to keep an eye on!

We hope that @symbiandevco will become a place to receive the latest Symbian developer news as it happens, pose questions or thoughts directly to our most technically gifted people in house who are running the feed from all corners of the globe, meet and interact with other members of the community and enjoy the acts of randomness that you’d associate with a feed that has a flying cow as its icon.

The Beta Keys..

Now that we are ready for the next round of beta testing, we’d like to invite people a few more people from all over the world to access our developer site. We felt the fairest way to grant access would be to divide the beta keys between all the locations where we have offices – San Francisco, Beijing, London, Bangalore and Tokyo – and accept applicants for the keys between 2pm and 4pm on Monday 4th May in each of those timezones. If you’re not actually from one of these cities don’t worry, just go for the timezone closest to yours!

How to get a Beta Key..

  • Follow @symbiandevco on Twitter
  • Work out which timezone is closest to you (San Francisco, Beijing, London, Bangalore, Tokyo)
  • Be ready to tweet between 2 – 4 pm on Monday 4th of May
  • Send the following tweet out during that time period: @symbiandevco I need a #symbian beta key!
  • Receive a message to your twitter within 12 hours containing your login to our beta

Good luck and happy Tweeting!
